survival of the revivals

recently heard a revival of "maling akala" by a band. to me, it did not and cannot outdo the genius and wit of eraserheads. i had (had kasi di ko na alam kung saan napunta) a copy of their first album, and memorized all the songs before the second album came out. unfortunately the first was to be the last as well. on the other hand, i memorized and sang along to the hits that followed. un nga lang, nawala na si ely buendia, and eraserheads stopped being the eraserheads.

because i cannot listen to nu107 on our office radio, i am forced to listen to pop and love songs. "popular radio" nowadays play 90% revivals round-the-clock. i think because there is a lack of new material around, or vhenee saturno experiences writers' block most of the time (ganyan talaga ata pag may risky "h" at tatlong "e" sa pangalan). that or ayaw nyang pakantahin si sarah geronimo ng composition nya.

that is not to say revivals should be banished to whence it came, just that it be kept to a minimum. kung kailangang ibenta ang album ng isang baguhang "artist", siguraduhin naman na may kakaibang twist ang material. hindi iyong gayang-gaya ang bawat nuance ni ely buendia o ng smokey mountain. o kung hindi mo matapatan ang "love moves in mysterious ways" ni julia fordham, eh what's the point pare?

buti pa ang ilang mga banda. palibhasa marami sila, pwede silang magpalitan ng ideas that give birth to new songs. pagpahingahin na muna natin sina vhenee at louie para maka-recharge sila. utang na loob.

brownman revival ang nag revive ng maling akala burns... at sa pangalan pa lang eh revival nga pero tama andami nang artists ngayon na puro covers ang mga pinalalabas na album minsan nga eh isang ols song kung sangkatutak amg me version kakahilo....
