to eat or not to eat
seeing skinny people is nothing new these days. we are constantly bombarded with ads showing skinny people, be it food, clothing, and beauty product ads. a lot of actresses nowadays get much media mileage for showing off sharp shoulder blades and protruding ribcages. i've also stumbled across some pro-anorexia sites, and all i can say is: ano kaya ang masarap kainin ngayon?

i will, however, not deny the fact that i sometimes wish i was a bit skinner. probably a few inches off here and there would allow me to wear my old clothes again - clothes that are now buried (but not forgotten) under all my other clothes. i know i can't give those away. not yet, anyway. i still think (or hope) that i'd get to wear them again someday. just this afternoon, i found myself looking through the plus-size lines at megamall. i barely fit into a free size and L nowadays. i wear my skinny jeans and by the end of the afternoon, i feel my legs wanting to be set free. boo hoo.

i once read that eating small portions help. i am not sure if 1 turon and 2 pcs. palitaw can be considered a small portion. or 2 japanese cakes and 1 biko is equivalent to a small serving. probably if this is spread over a period of 3 hours. but 10 minutes? fugedaboutit.

i once read an actress say that the mere thought of skipping meals to help her lose weight makes her feel even hungrier. hay mare, i can totally relate.

thinking of food makes me hungrier. thinking of food makes me forget about my long-planned diet and my old used-to-fit-me-real-well clothes. oh well.

ano kayang dinner sa bahay?

discovery
xty and i recently discovered a new ingredient being used by some of the most famous fastfood restaurants. you'd never know it, but yessiree, it's been sitting in our kitchen for the longest time now. who'd have thought?

the steel wool! the new miracle ingredient!

we had pancakes at jollibee this morning, and on our second pancake, lo and behold! we spotted little steel hairs sticking out of the fluffy pancake. we returned it, and the manager apologized (though not as profusely as we hoped) and said that they were going to investigate the matter. he told us to order anything on the menu, and that it would be on the house. but naturally! so we said, why not give us whatever is available. he gave us a cheeseburger each and apologized again. ang bait! imagine, a cheeseburger in exchange for a pancake bursting with steel hairs.

a few months ago, xty noticed that her max's lumpiang sariwa had funny little hairs sticking out of the ubod. upon close inspection, guess where these mysterious hairs originated from. koraks! steel wool again. after the obligatory apologies, they came back and replaced the lumpiang sariwa with, what else but lumpiang sariwa. but by then xty had already lost her appetite.

i guess quality assurance is no longer required these days. who knows, maybe they know something we don't - that steel wool acts as nature's broom and sweeps away harmful bacteria from the stomach. but whatever.

i may just be pretending, but i feel some steel hairs scratching my throat.

kids these days
went to my pamangkins birthday celebration last saturday.

before the party, pauline had her other tita curl and style her hair. the other tita told her to put on lip gloss, maybe even a little blush-on. i am assuming the add ons were needed since her crush was arriving soon. she was too excited to see this boy who was but a year older, yet seemed too mature for her. half of the neighborhood knew about this and teased her no end. pauline is 10 years old.

it was ice's party too. a mestiza classmate seemed to catch his fancy, as he kept telling everyone how sexy and beautiful this classmate is. already his eyes are trained to spot beauty and sexiness. he even put his arm on her shoulder when i took their picture. pilyo, my 5-year old nephew.

happy birthday pauline and ice. don't be in a hurry to grow up. there will be too much time for that later.
